University of Guelph Metal for Movement

Fall semester has begun and the Metal for movement team is hard at work completing the final touches of the pop tab collection boxes. Our current main collection box, the rain barrel has been implemented in the atrium of the engineering building at UofG. Students are able to drop off their pop tabs in this barrel through a specially designed filter system. The filter needed to be implemented due to students placing garbage in the barrel. We have put up more signs to educate students on this project and to reiterate that the barrel is not a garbage can and it is only for pop tabs. In addition to the barrel the other collection boxes, Plinko and Pinball are almost finished. Once complete we plan to have a launch event for this project in order to spread awareness on this initiative and hopefully incentivize students to collect their pop tabs. The event will be carnival themed, with lots of games and prizes to win. Entry tickets to the event and to play each individual game can be "bought" through pop tabs. This event will be a fun way for students to learn about our club and the projects we have, additionally it will be a great way to socialize with fellow engineers while depositing saved tabs.
